5 Quick Tips for Professional Telephone Etiquette

1. It’s important to ALWAYS be pleasant – Smile when you speak.

2. Be courteous. If you ask a caller to hold, say PLEASE and THANK YOU. Never leave a caller on hold too long – remember seconds feel like minutes when you are “hanging on”.

3. It makes the caller feel important if you REPEAT their name. So say “I’ll connect you George”.

4. Be considerate. Make sure you are concentrating on the call and NOT chewing gum, or on the internet, or reading your texts. Believe it or not, the caller will notice.

5. After taking a message, ALWAYS repeat the information with correct spelling of a name or the correct number for accuracy.
